Ben Rispin’s Bloggo- mattic 2

August 20th, 2010 | By Saint Alvia

So, we started working on 7 new demos for pre production last friday and Matt Richmond killed it. He blasted through 7 songs almost flawlessly. This brings the demo count up to about 12 new songs and we still have more in the bank. Soon, we will face the tough part of having to decide what songs we will focus on for the next record. This is always interesting as we all have our own favourites and rarely see eye to eye. I’ll try to get one of these discussions on tape as they are pretty funny as an outsider looking in. I’m sure everyone involved would be transparent in his arguing for whatever reasons they want whatever song. As it is right now, our 3rd studio release could be a double album if we don’t make some decisions ( It’s not going to be – that was a joke).

Kidding aside, everyone has stepped up and is focused on working hard. Other projects have been moved to the side and we are all going full steam on what we hope to deliver as our defining album. If you get a chance and you are a “youtuber” please add our station www.youtube.com/saintalviacartel . I will be posting regular updates and videos from now on and we will finally start working that thing.

Stay tuned!

Jonxer Test-Press up for auction to support Protagonist

August 12th, 2010 | By Saint Alvia

Hey everyone,

As some of you may have heard, the Paper+Plastick band Protagonist had all of their gear stolen in Oklahoma City a few months ago, just before entering the studio with Stephen Egerton to record a new full-length. Despite this major setback, the band continues to move forward thanks to all the community and fan support.

With $22,000 worth of gear completely gone, P+P has set up an Ebay auction of 43 rare test pressings, and all proceeds will help the band recoup and continue making music.

We’re no strangers to having our shit stolen, so we feel their pain and recommend you go grab some of these ultra-rare collectibles, and show your support at the same time.

Up for grabs are the following test presses.

* A Wilhelm Scream – s/t
* Anti-Flag – Queens and Kings 7”
* Blacklist Royals – Semper Liberi
* Coffee Project – Moved On
* The Dopamines – Expect The Worst
* Farewell Continental – s/t
* Flatliners/Snips – split 7”
* Foundation – Chimborazo
* Frank Turner – The First Three Years
* fun – Aim and Ignite
* Greenland Is Melting – Our Hearts Are Gold, Our Hearts Are Blue
* Saint Alvia – Joxner
* Slackers – Lost and Found
* Spanish Gamble – It’s All Coming Down
* The Have Nots – Serf City USA
* The Riot Before – Rebellion
* The Swellers – Ups and Downsizing
* Tumbledown – s/t
* We Are The Union – Great Leaps Forward
* West Bound Train – Come and Get It

“Cheers to your fucking Beers” – The Cretin, Day Glo Abortions

Well hello from Alvia land! First things first, YES we are working a new record.

We have been doing so casually for a year or so but have constantly been interrupted by opportunities such as taking this dog and pony show to Europe and touring with great bands like Off with Their Heads, Youth Brigade and the Bouncing Souls or going to Punk Rock Bowling. So, as it stands right now we have somewhere around 30 songs that we are working on.

We moved into a new space, still in Hamilton of course, and we are sharing it with our friend’s in the Hamilton based band “June & July”. Minus the new fruit fly infestation due to an abundance of empty PBR cans, multi national tall boys and any beer bottle that’s label has the word “Lime” on it – things are really looking up for this dirty half dozen. We dusted ourselves off from the aftermath of losing our van, trailer and jam space/demo studio and have become a fully functioning unit again. How exhilarating? I’ll stray away from patting ourselves on the back and get back to the music. So, in true Alvia fashion, out of the 30 songs we are working on we have agreed on around 5 or 6 to make the yet to be titled next album. I can tell you this though, everyone’s heart is into making this record great, working together and trying to make the most honest music we possibly can.

We’ve been talking to various producers about the new album and sat down with our new friend Brian Moncarz who did a great job working with us on a song we have been calling “Slide”. It’s a working title and probably the only working title I can post without embarrassing ourselves and offending many.

Check in weekly for these blogs if you have nothing to do at work, pretty soon they will be accompanied by video and pictures. Honestly though, you might just want to head over to “Myfreepaysite.com”.

Thanks for your time, Ben
